On Wednesday, the featured race of Aqueducts card is the $100,000 Alex M. Robb Stakes. Restricted to horses bred in New York, the mile and a sixteenth race has drawn a field of eight colts and geldings.
Big Business has been installed as the morning line favorite at odds of 5-2 for high-profile trainer David Jacobson. A six-year-old gelded son of Eddington, he was second in the Forego (G1) over the summer and will be trying to earn his first stakes win. He was last seen finishing fourth in the Cigar Mile (G1) and has been on the board in eight of his nine starts this year. Fernando Jara has picked up the mount and they will break from the rail.
Effinex going for fourth win of the year
James Jerkens will send out Effinex, second choice on the morning line at odds of 7-2. The sophomore son of Mineshaft earned his third win of the year two starts back with a victory over older rivals in the Empire Classic and was last seen finishing fourth in the Hawthorne Gold Cup (G2). The dark bay colt has been training steadily since his last race and will have regular rider Angel Arroyo aboard from post position three.
Sinistra trying to return to competitive form
Also in the field is Sinistra, a longshot at morning line odds of 20-1 for trainer Karl Grusmark. A four-year-old gelded son of Stonesider, he is trying to rebound after his normally consistent form has submarined in his last two races. He was a non-threatening fifth in his last start against optional claiming competition at Aqueduct. He has been on the board in ten of his fifteen starts this year and will get a rider change to Jeremy Rose from post seven.
