Full Field of Twelve Set for $550,000 Spiral Stakes
On Saturday at Turfway Park, the featured race is the 44th running of the $550,000 Spiral Stakes. Carded at a mile and a sixteenth on the synthetic track, the Grade 3 race has drawn a field of twelve colts and geldings.
Royal Son headlines the field as the morning line favorite at odds of 7-2 for trainer Todd Pletcher. Bred and owned by WinStar Farm, the bay son of Tiznow has won two of his five career starts and was last seen winning the John Battaglia Memorial Stakes at Turfway in his first start on synthetics. He is scheduled to break from the rail under jockey Rodney Prescott.
Metaboss trying for three in a row
Second choice at morning line odds of 4-1 is Metaboss for trainer Jeff Bonde. A chestnut son of Street Boss purchased for $60,000 as a juvenile, he has won his last two starts and was last seen winning the El Camino Real Derby (G3) in an impressive performance from off of the pace. He has been training steadily since then and will have Alex Solis back aboard from post eleven.
Conquest Typhoon making second start of the year
Also in the field at morning line odds of 5-1 is Conquest Typhoon for trainer Mark Casse. Purchased for $330,000 as a yearling, the bay son of Stormy Atlantic has been on the board in six of his seven starts and is a multiple graded stakes winner. He was third in his first start of the year last time out as the favorite. Mike Smith will be aboard and they will break from post nine.
