On Sunday at Santa Anita, the featured race is the $100,000 Robert J. Frankel Stakes. Carded at a mile and an eighth on the turf, the Grade 3 event has drawn a full field of fourteen fillies and mares.
Glory has been tabbed as the morning line favorite in the wide open field at odds of 4-1 for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer. A three-year-old daughter of Tapit, she was purchased for $260,000 as a yearling and has won three of her eight starts. She will be trying to earn her first stakes victory and is stepping back up in class after back to back wins against optional claiming competition. Mike Smith will be in the irons and they will break from post position twelve.
Rusty Slipper looking for two graded wins in a row
Second choice at morning line odds of 9-2 is Rusty Slipper for trainer Graham Motion. A five-year-old daughter of Lemon Drop Kid, the dark bay mare has won six of her seventeen starts and is a multiple graded stakes winner. She was sixth in this race last year. In her most recent start, she won the Red Carpet Handicap (G3) at Del Mar and will have James Graham aboard from post position four.
Alexis Tangier trying for first graded stakes win
Also in the field at morning line odds of 5-1 is Alexis Tangier for trainer Richard Mandella. A four-year-old daughter of Tiznow, she is a homebred for Ran Jan Racing and is out of a multiple graded stakes winning mare. She has won four of her eleven starts and will be trying to earn her first graded stakes win after scoring in the Swingtime Stakes. Gary Stevens will be aboard from post position three.
