Nine Fillies Set to Compete in $1 Million Cotillion at Parx
On Saturday at Parx Racing, some of the top three-year-old fillies in the country will compete in the 45th edition of the $1 million Cotillion Stakes. The prestigious Grade 1 race will be contested at a mile and a sixteenth and has drawn a field of nine.
Untapable has been installed as the morning line favorite at odds of 7-5 for trainer Steve Asmussen. Bred and owned by Winchell Thoroughbreds, the sophomore daughter of Tapit will attempt to rebound after a fifth-place finish against male rivals in the Haskell Invitational (G1). Prior to that last race, she had won all four starts this year against graded stakes competition. Rosie Napravnik will remain aboard and the pair will break from post position eight.
Stopchargingmaria going for fourth straight win
Second choice at morning line odds of 7-2 is Stopchargingmaria who will break from the outside post for trainer Todd Pletcher. Purchased by Repole Stable for $220,000 as a two-year-old, the dark bay daughter of Tale of the Cat is going for her fourth consecutive victory. Last time out, she earned her second Grade 1 win and will again have John Velazquez in the irons. She has won six of her ten total starts, five of which have come against graded stakes company.
Sweet Reason stretching out after Test victory
Also in the field is Sweet Reason at morning line odds of 4-1 for trainer Leah Gyarmati. A $185,000 purchase as a yearling, the bay daughter of Street Sense has won three of her four starts this year and comes into this race off of consecutive Grade 1 stakes wins. She defeated nine rivals after a troubled trip to win the Test (G1) by a length as the favorite last time out. Regular rider Irad Ortiz, Jr. will remain aboard and they will break from post position two.
