Sandiva (IRE) Headlines International Field for $150,000 Suwanee River
On Saturday at Gulfstream Park, the stakes action continues with the 72nd edition of the $150,000 Suwanee River Stakes. Scheduled to be run at a mile and an eighth on the turf, the Grade 3 race has drawn a field of thirteen fillies and mares with one additional listed for the main track only.
Sandiva (IRE) has been tabbed as the morning line favorite at odds of 7-2 for trainer Todd Pletcher. A four-year-old daughter of Footstepsinthesand (GB), she has won five of her twelve career starts and earned a pair of Group 3 victories overseas. She earned her first North American victory last time out with a game effort over a field of thirteen rivals in the Tropical Park Oaks in December. She has been training steadily since that race and will have Javier Castellano aboard from post position eight.
White Rose attempting to earn first graded stakes victory
Second choice at 4-1 on the morning line is White Rose for trainer Bill Mott. A five-year-old daughter of prominent stallion Tapit, she will make her first start of the year and comes into this race off of back to back victories against stakes company. She has won five of her seventeen starts and will be trying for the first graded stakes win of her career. She has been training sharply for her return to the races and will get a jockey change to John Velazquez from the outside post.
Cay Dancer (GB) trying to improve off of lackluster U.S. debut
Also in the field at morning line odds of 9-2 is Cay Dancer (GB) for trainer Chad Brown. A four-year-old daughter of Danehill Dancer (IRE), she has won three of her twelve starts and is trying to rebound after finishing ninth in her North American debut last time out. She has been training forwardly since that race and has had a pair of recent bullet workouts. Edgard Zayas has picked up the mount and they will break from post position twelve.
